Video Games The Official Pro Cycling Manager Thread

I've been enjoying Pro Cycling Manager 2014 during the Tour de France broadcast this week, and it isn't as buggy as it used to be. I'm using PCMdaily.com's expansion packs (V1, V1.2 and V.2, must be installed in that order) and it's great fun, which means I think it's safe to pick up, Rodderas Smile

Of course, being a LlaMa, I started with a horrible custom team and I'm struggling to do anything useful in the bottom division. I've created a thread over at pcmdaily.com where you can follow my story and I'm testing out writing it as a journalist following the team closely.

You can get PCM 2015 for £16 on Amazon.

I'll probably be picking that up in a week or so, so will report back on how playable it is.

Great, do that! I've been thinking about buying it myself but I'm enjoying PCM2014 at the moment and would love a 'review' before I buy (especially considering Cyanide's love for bugs and games that crashes).

I did have a crash the other day that nearly gave me a heart attack. If you've followed my story you know it's a proper LLM story where I try to find the positive in finishing 75th Smile anyway, just finished a stage with lots of steep climbs and had a rider in a breakaway all day who was first over every top and took the polka-dot jersey. I clicked on See the podium after the race since it was quite a big moment, and the game crashed. Luckily it saved the stage before crashing but it took a couple of years of my life expectancy Smile

Okay so I've got PCM15. The overall experience is better and the interface is a lot more polished. Have only played half an hour or so so far. The new pro mode is interesting.

Mrgreen

Fortunately it doesn't let me argue with the team sponsors...

Been playing some more tonight and I've picked up my first Jersey. Currently got the white jersey in something called Olympia's Road. Hopefully I'll manage to win this - decent chance of winning the race overall too.

Well, I bottled that. Was 9 seconds back on yellow, 4 down on white going into the final stage. The race blew apart in the final 30 kilometres with myself and the yellow jersey in the bigger of two groups and the white in the second group.

I attacked 20 kilometres from the finish, completely misjudged it and blew up 5km from home. Didn't even finish in the top ten of either classification.

I've at least been enjoying the hell out of PCM2014 lately. Been playing during the Tour de France stages Smile I've finished the first season with my custom 1-star Continental team, not a very good season (won two polka-dot jersey's, 1 stage and rode two days in yellow in some insignificant race) and we were among the worst teams and riders even at the Continental level (I play on extreme btw). A true LLM season indeed Smile Now I'm about to start the 2nd season with two new riders helping us out, but as many as 9 riders are on expiring contracts this season and I'm afraid I'll lose at least a few of them.

If you like cycling and you know a little bit about tactics and divisions and races and such you should definitely get it Smile I don't know if PCM2015 is any good though.

From what I've heard on the pcmdaily.com forums and read from people who've played the last 4-5 games they're mostly saying that if you have PCM2014, don't bother buying 2015. But if you don't own either game, buy PCM2015. It includes a new game mode that doesn't exist in 2014 (a solo career mode where you control only 1 rider) which, from what I've heard, is very cool and actually I'm tempted to buy the game myself just because of it.

Bugs and crashes you're going to get with either game. The difference is that they're still patching 2015.

I'd say so yes. I love it. Especially the new pro mode which I'm really enjoying.

By the way Ole, the mode you're speaking of is excellent.

I've only really had one or two crashes, which fair enough are annoying, but as the game auto saves anyway it isn't a huge issue.

I take it you purchased the boxed copy of 15 JD? Is it activated through steam?

I got paid a few days early so being the impatient bastard that I am, I just bought it on steam.

Having looked at a list of cd keys steam will activate, it doesn't show on there, though I'm not 100% if the list is exhaustive.

Ah! Cheers, I might have to go for steam myself. It just makes it easier to install on my netbook.
